This last week in class we were talking about the influence religion, primarily Christianity, had on the development of the United States. I was excited because my teacher was seemed to support Christians and what they have done and are doing for others both inside and outside of the United States. Sadly, a student behind me yelled "Christians are nothing but a group of manipulators and people who want to control what we believe" and proceeded to rip apart Christians and Jesus. I sat stunned wondering why this guy was so hateful against what I believe.
At my Bible study I have every week I got my answer. We were reading in John 1 and a verse jumped out at me. John 1:11 says "He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive Him" (NIV). Jesus came to earth, His creation, and people chose not to accept Him and what He has done for all of mankind. I began to understand the student in my class, and many others like him, don't understand Jesus and who He really is. My plan is to pray for this guy and to be an example to him of what a true Christian is in hopes before my semester is over he will come up to me and ask why I am different. My God is big enough to answer this prayer :)
